The Feature Area is relatively new to the Guardino Gallery. Situated in the front area where the frame shop used to be, the new Feature Area will host "Mini-shows" on a changing monthly basis. We will also be scheduling the Window as a showing area and a place for installations.

IN THE FEATURE AREA:

Roger Lee creates ceramic sculptures. There is a playful gesture to his work that evokes pleasure and invites the sense of touch. He is attracted to surfaces that mimic soft folds of the skin, bulbous forms of the body, and a sense of fullness that speaks of the interior of the form. Between materials that are soft and receptive, to forms that evoke images of the body, Lee’s work is aroused by what is familiar yet investigates the emotional desires as a response to these forms. His materials communicate the elasticity and the sensations of skin being stretched, squeezed, pinched, and caressed. This body of work explores sensuality through an investigation of materials and forms that provoke visceral sensations.

Kat Hutter uses repetition and abstracted images to create colorful oil paintings that allow her to insert a bit of humor within a very serious and devastating social reality. She relies on distorting the context in which shapes/objects exist through cultural or societal categorization. “I began investigating the language of signals, repetition and human thinking relying heavily on the viewer’s link to familiarity and how that may provoke them to read the paintings.”  The objects come directly from media sources forming our visual vocabulary on a daily basis.  Ranging from hummers to quarter-pound cheeseburgers, from lipstick bottles, to cigarette ads; all are used to sell or communicate a product.

IN THE WINDOW GALLERY:

Bryan Jablonski’s glass creations combine technical refinement with whimsical inspiration to achieve a perfect balance. Bryan uses a variety of techniques to create his glass artwork, from glass blowing to forming and shaping the glass with tongs and sheers. The focus of his recent body of work is of social nature, and the draw we all have towards beauty.  The vessels he creates pay attention to atmosphere, and his own footprint within.  His sculpture ventures into the unknown, focusing on apparitions and mystery and their connection to both soul and imagination. “I like to believe in things full heartedly and as they manifest in glass I enjoy the irony of looking through them, trying to understand on what level they are real.”
