FEATURE AREA & WINDOW DISPLAY The Feature Area is new to the Guardino Gallery. Situated in the front area where the frame shop used to be, the new Feature Area will host "Mini-shows" on a changing monthly basis. We will also be scheduling the Window as a showing area and a place for installations. July 26-August 28 | | SHOWING THE FEATURE GALLERY: Scott Conary is a painter with a simple agenda - to become a better painter. He walks a line between representation and abstraction. However firm the image, the paint is as much or more the subject of each piece. This is seen in the two lines of work on display. The first, the figurative pieces, are inspired by nearly-lost old family films. In the paintings, he explores the people and their relationships existing as little more than whispers of memories. The second, the small works, painted directly from life, began as a painting exercise but have since taken on a life of their own. The subjects are what is at hand - a pair of mussel shells, a wrench, a pork chop. Seemingly separate pursuits; the works are about paint and the power it has to evoke a response. The timeline of the inventory of found objects originates from 1900 to the late 1950's. Some are easily identified and some are a complete mystery. Mosley is intrigued with the texture of corrosion and the shape of the metal. He was also drawn to the organic shapes and the baroque nature of the design from the original designers. To quote Mosely “Something about the character of many of these pieces caught my attention. There was an essence of integrity and grace about them that inspired me. I hope to honor the historical significance of these mechanical artifacts by reinventing them as sculpture.” Pictured left: "Wish Box" metal assemblage | | | | | | |
