December 27-January 27

The Feature Area is relatively new to the Guardino Gallery. Situated in the front area where the frame shop used to be, the new Feature Area will host "Mini-shows" on a changing monthly basis. We will also be scheduling the Window as a showing area and a place for installations.

IN THE FEATURE AREA:

JoAnn Syron is a self-taught glass artist who pushes the envelope of what can be done with glass using only heat, time and gravity. Creating vases & vessels, she likes to take material that people normally see as sharp and cold and turn it into something that makes people want to caress and touch the smooth sensual and /or soft looking curves of her pieces. In addition, Jo Ann has developed her own style of painting with glass. Inspired by the beauty of Oregon, she creates impressionistic landscapes/seascapes, using only glass and glass frit, which have a depth of field that puts the viewer into the scene.

web-linda2 Linda Womack’s paintings pair modern digital photography with the ancient technique of encaustic painting. Beeswax, resin and pigment are layered to produce a deep, translucent surface that captures and reflects light. Womack often collages other materials into the wax medium, including dried plants, natural fibers, and handmade paper. The translucency of the wax creates layers of information. She takes her inspiration from the interplay of strength and delicacy in nature; the wax enveloping the photographs represents natural elements of earth, wind, water, and fire. The mark of man is added through text, indecipherable words or symbols..

IN THE WINDOW GALLERY:

Gloria Sowell works in mixed-media with fractured and old cathedral glass, found objects, collage, pen and ink, paints, wood and metal. Her work reflects sentiments of lightness and transparency, with images that are collaged, drawn upon, cut-apart and reassembled. The pieces relate to nature, meditation, imagination, celebration and abundance of life. Using images of birds, insects, stars, endangered species, and meditation to connect to the subtle energy of the universe. Sowell’s artwork is a dramatization of that which is significant during her journey of discovery.
