Rick Gregg, steel & concrete sculpture

July 31-August 26

Rick Gregg’s sculptures are a product of his background in welding and art blacksmithing. Predominately sculpting with the flame of a torch, the liquid metal is moved into the shape desired. Gregg also experiments combining welded steel with cements and has developed a technique which allows him to attain richer contrasts of color, texture and form.  Gregg continually pushes the boundaries and the limitations of the material.  By not accepting the constraints of the behavior of the components, his work continually challenges the perceived function of the media.  His work has been influenced by the simplicity of form and expression found in primitive works. Gregg’s art offers no embellishments of realistic detail, just simple lines expressed in form. "While the techniques are complicated, my real goal is to express the wonder of simplicity."

Alison Brown creates strong and evocative images. She has titled her portion of the show: The Healing Image.  Through the medium of charcoal and pastel painting, wood block relief and intaglio prints, imaginative and mythical figures are interwoven with plant and animal forms. Inspired by an inner journey, the figures are fluid and symbolic moving across a visionscape.  Loosely strung patterns of associations tell a story pointing to the potential of inner transformation and the subtle interconnectedness of things. Six of the woodblocks prints are in scroll form measuring from three to seven feet in length. These include sacred letters and imagery motivated through my interest in prayer scrolls which are used in spiritual and healing rituals.
