Nick Gadbois & Matthew Stewart

Nick Gadbois, bas relief in wax and cement
Matthew Stewart, blown glass
April 24-May 27
Reception: April 24, 6-9 PM during “Last Thursday” Artwalk

Matthew Stewart’s show of blown glass work is titled the “Modular Anatomical Series”. The free flowing glass sculptures are composed of pieces that fit together in what he calls “sensual confrontation”. When coupled, these forms create balance, as well as tension. Years of working glass in the rigid symmetry of vessel making has led Matthew to explore the freedom of hot glass. His amorphous shapes have fluid lines which shows the rhythm of the glass.

Nick Gadbois will be showing a body of work painted in non-traditional methods using pigmented wax and concrete. His work is actually bas relief that have weight and a highly tactile quality about them. The cement paintings have channels and images are etched into the surface and then flooded with thin layers of plaster and paint mixtures, etched and layered, thus giving it a textured feeling. His work was inspired from visiting ancient petroglyphs.
